The Space Between Us

You lie there
fading
A breath at a time
the weight of years settling like dust in the corners.
We were never easy
never soft words and gentle hands
always shadows stretching between what was said and what was meant.
I want to forgive
but forgiveness feels like a language I was never taught
I want to rage
but anger wilts in the face of your hollowed frame
So I sit
watching
waiting
wondering if silence can bridge what words could not
I do not know if you see me
if you would reach for me if you could
But still
I stay
Because despite everything
you are my father
And love
even when tangled
does not let go so easily.
